There are a plethora of applications that look to hide your images and documents from view and protect them from strangers or prying eyes. Secure Pictures is another option for securing photos and videos taken by your BlackBerry camera. It protects your media by encrypting them with a secure password that only the application is capable of opening. It uses AES-256 symmetric cryptography and safely stores the key on your device. You can purchase this application for $2.99 for BlackBerry 10.

musiXmatch Music Player Lyrics by musiXmatch

While this application is not necessarily new to other platforms, there is no denying that we sometimes need a little help with song lyrics. After downloading, it scans for music you have saved on your device or SD card. The application itself can identify millions of songs and lyrics in minutes including music titles, artists, and discography. Using the clean and bright interface you can easily setup playlists and listen to your tunes all while seeing the lyrics scroll across the screen. In addition, if you hear a song on the radio or on TV and need to know the name, artist or even the lyrics you can hold it up, tap the button, and it will identify it using their MusicID. musiXmatch offers a smooth interface, lyrics that are in perfect sync with the music, and even has the capability to remove the song's vocals so that you can sing along if supported. You can find it for free in the Amazon Appstore.

Angry Birds Transformers by Rovio Entertainment

If you didn't have a chance to catch James' review of the latest in the Angry Birds series be sure to do so. In a complete department from their regular avian flinging antics this is a 3D shoot'em up adventure. The Eggspark has invaded the land turning the birds and pigs into our favorite Transformer characters. Your goal is to help the Autobirds save Piggy Island from the Eggbots without using a slingshot and by shooting at the Deceptihogs. This time you have some serious firepower to stop your enemies. I have to say it offers awesome gameplay and of course top-notch graphics. Who would have though these two genres could combine and form one absolutely fun game. Be sure to grab it for free at the link through the Amazon Appstore if you are on BlackBerry 10.

This one's a must have game - Monument Valley, free today from Amazon

$

0

Elegance is a word I'd use to describe Monument Valley, which is Amazon's free app of the day today. That's not a word I use very often and certainly not when it comes to mobile gaming, but if you watch our brief hands-on video above you should see what I'm talking about.

Coming from Amazon, Monument Valley is of course an Android game and I was super pleased to see it worked just fine on my BlackBerry Passport. The concept of the game is pretty straight forward as you just have to guide Ida, the silent princess, through the monuments. This is achieved just by tapping where you want her to walk.

There's plenty more to it than that though and rather than spoil the fun all I'm going to say is download this one - it's a real treat of a game.

Here's a few quotes I borrowed from Google Play:

"One of the very finest hours, and the value of such a thing is incalculable" - Kotaku

"Brilliant design... stayed with me like a dream I didn't want to forget... 9/10" - Polygon

"Monument Valley stuns with its serenity... each screen is a work of art" - Huffington Post

"Almost impossibly gorgeous... a feast for your senses... 5/5" - Touch Arcade

If you've not yet got the Amazon Appstore on your BlackBerry 10 device just hit up the link below for full instructions. And of course, let us know what you think of the game?

Howdy CrackBerry nation! Another week has flown by here on the blogs which brings us one step closer to the launch of the BlackBerry Classic. This week saw the BlackBerry 10.3.1 Native SDK go gold, a video detailing how to use the keyboard shortcuts on the Classic, and a quick tutorial on how to get Amazon Prime Instant Video on BlackBerry 10. As the holidays are almost upon us be sure to check out our Holiday Gift Guide for some great ideas.

Now it is time to bring you this week's picks for all your passionate BlackBerry addicts out there. You can find each app and game I've rustled up for you by clicking through the gallery below. If your favorite did not make the cut this week, remember you can help by offering your suggestions at the end.

LATASY Music Player by HA Corp

The BlackBerry OS may come with its own media player, but that doesn't mean you can't explore other options for listening to your library. The design for Latasy is intended to be simplistic so that you have a clean and eye pleasing experience. There are several background themes to choose from, and it has all of the basic functions of the default application and more. It allows you to manage and listen to music by folder, create playlists, automatically stop your music with a sleep timer, sleep timer to automatically stop your music, shake your device to control playback as well as control the sensitivity, and employs gesture controls for swiping between songs and screens. Another added feature that is not available in the native application is that it downloads and displays the lyrics if available, for the currently playing tune. The only thing you need to be aware of is that if you add more songs to your device you will need to tap on the reindex option by swiping down so that it appears. There are two versions of this app, a full version for all BlackBerry 10 devices for $1.99, and a free limited version that is compatible with all devices save for the BlackBerry Passport.

Triangles by anpho

As someone who used to be a diehard theme fanatic, I have now become obsessed with discovering new wallpapers for my BlackBerry. This latest application from anpho is actually quite unique in how it generates backgrounds. It creates simple and beautiful triangle, or low-poly, wallpapers for to download. What makes this different, is that users can customize the cell size and cell padding (distance between each point) for each one generated. Basically, you are creating an entirely new design every time the generate button is tapped. The resulting high-quality polygonal backgrounds and textures are certainly eye-pleasing and with each modification you never quite know what you are going to get. You can find it for $0.99 for all BlackBerry 10 devices.

WebReader RSS Reader by Soft Artists Ltd.

We previously took a look at Web Reader for the BlackBerry PlayBook, and now I had a chance to look at the version released for BlackBerry 10. I have to say it offers the same smooth experience and is a great full featured and solid RSS feed reader. Users are notified whenever new articles are available, secure authorization with several sites including Google, Facebook, and Twitter, new article preview, subscribe to any news source or RSS feed, and share via Facebook, Twitter, and email. WebReader is available for free from BlackBerry World.

TwoDots by Playdots, Inc.

Sometimes nothing beats a minimalistic game to keep you occupied for long periods of time. The concept behind this cross-platform puzzle game, that is the sequel to the popular Dots game, is quite simple. All players must do to advance is simply connect the dots. However, executing that task is not as easy as you think as there are challenges and obstacles to overcome. You accomplish this goal by swiping across the board connecting one dot to another of the same color to remove them from the board. To clear each level, players must collect a certain number of colors in the designated amount of moves. The game itself presents a clean and simply visual style. It is fashioned similar to Candy Crush in that players start the game off with a total of five lives that refill every 20 minutes. Though there are in-app purchases to extend the game. When you need a quick and frustrating game to pass the time, TwoDots can be downloaded for free from the Amazon Appstore.

Rainbow - Sync your data between cloud services

How many of you joined multiple cloud services? If you have then what if there was an application that could let you transfer data from one cloud service to another? Now there are other applications in the storefront to sync your files, such as PlayCloud, this Android port offers offers a simple interface and visual style, that tends to be on the bright side, to not only sync your cloud services but search your files as well even with keywords. Rainbow supports nine cloud services including Bitcasa, Box, Copy, Google Drive, Dropbox, Media Fire, and OneDrive. With Rainbow, you can copy or delete files from one service to another or from one folder to another on the same one. Nostalgia by Marco Gallo

This week we brought you a game that evoked memories of pasting gaming systems. While Nostalgia as of now has nine levels that make up Chapter One, the levels are a fun gateway to your childhood. As an 8-bit version of Brick Breaker, each level is inspired by a famous consoles or retro. What this means is that they are depicted in the blocks that you need to smash with your paddle and ball. Upon completion of a board, the information pertaining to that particular retro gaming system is shown so that the game not only entertains but educates as well. Fun for all ages, I simply love this new twist on the classic game. So what are you waiting for?

Put your reflexes to the test with Colourless

$

0

It's not often I come across a game that contains simple elements yet is a complex arcade game that involves skill and strategy. Originally designed for the Ludum Dare 26, where developers from around the world spend a weekend creating games based on community suggested themes, the concept grew into the final product you see before you.

This minimalistic survival game has players control a small geometric figure, shaped liked a circle, triangle, square, or trapezoid, that shrinks with time unless you collide with another like shape or color. However, each level and board has your figure being bombarded by the other shapes and colors from all different directions. As they fly out at you, you must choose how you want to stop your figure from shrinking into nonexistence. Do you collide with a like color to increase in size, do you choose to morph into another and start collecting those, or do you simply shrink to avoid colliding? Decisions must be made instantly and, as the game is constantly changing because levels are procedurally generated along with the music, this is not an easy task.

Features

  • Procedurally generated levels with increased difficulty
  • Post Ludum Dare game
  • Modern chiptune music
  • Minimalistic graphics and particles
  • Extreme difficulty

Now this might sound a little confusing but once you get the hang of it, Colourless is a well-thought out game that is both challenging and fun. The mechanics of the game may be simple but it certainly does a great job at testing your reflexes as you try to manoeuvre your way around the board all while thinking of when to grow, when to shrink, or when to swap pieces. Whether you survive for a few moments or work your way up the board, it is quite an innovative concept.

Colourless is available to download for free for the BlackBerry Z3, Z10, and Z30 as well as the BlackBerry PlayBook. My highest time is 73 seconds. How long can you keep going? Let us know in the comments.

Contact Care by NandkumarRS

After switching back and forth amongst several devices I realized that not all of my contacts followed and some were lost in the shuffle. Being able to manage your contacts is important and that is why we all could use the ability to backup, restore, export, import, and merge them. While the interface is quite simple, you really do not need to jump through complicated menus just to organize your address book. The main screen shows the total number of contacts on your device as well as how many had been backup up. Simply tap on the menu and choose the desired function to perform. Backups may be saved to your device, SD Card, or to Dropbox and users may select to perform a full or custom backup in a matter of moments. Files are exported in CSV format or as a single vCard 3.0. For those, like me, who struggle with duplicates simply tap on the merge button to have it discover them by name, number, or email. The app is $0.99 to purchase for BlackBerry 10.

Bonza Word Puzzle by MiniMega

As someone who is fan of a variety of word games, I had to check this one out from the Amazon Appstore. This is not your everyday crossword puzzle though. It is combination word search, jigsaw puzzle, and trivia knowledge all rolled together in one interesting game. The object of the game is simple; you are presented with a few jigsaw puzzle pieces that are comprised of letters. Your goal is to form words that match the clue(s) you are presented with at the top of the game. For instance, if your clue is cutlery then you have to move the pieces to spell out knife, fork, and spoon. In the beginning the puzzles are quite easy though they become more challenging as you progress. There are several packs included in this game to work your way through first or the free puzzle of the day before moving on to the paid puzzle packs. It's fun, quick and a good way to pass the time.

Prank-War-Passport-Hero

Brought to us from The Cartoon Network, The Great Prank War is Amazon's free app of the day if you fancy snapping it up? I'll be honest and say that I'm not familiar with this one, maybe as I tend not to watch much of the Cartoon Network.

However, I gave this one a brief session on my BlackBerry Passport and what a beauty it is. If you're looking for fast paced action, wonderful graphics and loveable characters then this one will be for you.

When Gene, the manager of rival park East Pines, gets his hands on a time machine, he goes back in time so he can win the Great Prank War and take over the park. Now it's up to our heroes to take it back, but it won't be easy! The game also features awesome new Regular Show character designs and animation styles for maximum prankiness.

In an action-packed hybrid of tower defense, you'll assault enemy towers and take them out so you can build defensive towers of your own, all while battling Gene's endless army of park rangers, animatronic bears, feral hot dogs, dancing cassette tapes, and more!

Choose to play as Mordecai, Rigby, Muscle Man or Skips. Each one of them has trained in a specialized pranking art and developed unique powers to put the hurt on the bad guys. And in the Great Prank War, even the towers are prank-themed, using eggs, glue, fart cushions and other gimmicks to defend your turf. It's Regular Show at its prankiest!

It was only a month ago that we brought you a hands-on look at Miika for BlackBerry 10. The 3D puzzle game which is like no other I've ever played instantly had me hooked, even though I'm not a fan of puzzles.

Miika oozes beauty all round and now the developer has updated the game with a bunch of features, including Passport support I suspect I'll be spending even more time playing it.

With Christmas looming around the corner it's rather nice to see a festive twist added to the game. I suspect we'll see many a future update from Miika.

Howdy CrackBerry nation! Not only is this the end of the week but it's also early into a brand new month. The only reason I mention that small fact is that this means we are even closer to the launch of the BlackBerry Classic. Less than two weeks remain until the launch and I am certainly looking forward to it. Also notable this week are the unboxing videos of the White and RedBlackBerry Passport.

Now it is time to bring you this week's picks for all your passionate BlackBerry addicts out there. You can find each app and game I've rustled up for you by clicking through the gallery below. If your favorite did not make the cut this week, remember you can help by offering your suggestions at the end.

Phone Tag by Toysoft Development

Over the years, I'm sure we all accumulated a vast array of phone numbers in our contact list. Some of these numbers we use on a regular basis while others are ones we only use every now and again. For business users who prefer not to clutter up their address book or wish to keep their personal work contacts separate there is this simple and effective productivity tool. It allows users the ability to tag calls, essentially separating them from the contacts application, but still granting them the option to call, text, and email them later. For instance, if you send or receive a call to an unknown number you can tag and save the contact within the application, including email address). From here, you can leave the contact in the application or have the choice of saving to the contacts application. There are additional options including a backup or restore and integration with BlackBerry Maps and Google Maps. If there are contacts who you do not wish to add to your address book but still wish to communicate with then this comes in handy for $1.99 for BlackBerry 10.

Whether you are typing a text, email or even BBM you simply type in your text in the area provided of the application. Gazzet by Justin Mitchell

Recently a brand new social feeds, and news reader hit the storefront. This minimalistic app, offers a convenient way of catching up on all your news from Twitter and Reddit. I have to say this is a promising start by the developer who is working on incorporating Feedly, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Hub Integration and Notifications into the application. For now, Gazzet is a native application that is beautiful laid out with animations and gestures. For instance, with a quick swipe over a particular tweet you can reply, favorite and retweet. In addition, by going into the side menu you can sort by popularity or time and refresh your feed. The application is $1.99 to purchase for BlackBerry 10. I am certainly looking forward to seeing how it progresses.

Unolingo by Equazi Enterprises LLC

If you cannot tell by now, I tend to get obsessed over puzzle games. One game that I discovered in the Amazon Appstore is Unolingo. Dubbed as crosswords without clues it is a rather difficult and frustrating game whereby you are presented with a 10x 10 grid without clues and 26 empty squares with which you must precisely place each letter in the alphabet, once and only once. There are four difficulty levels and 160 puzzles to choose from, and it takes time and patience to be able to complete the puzzle. It's fun, frustrating, and at times extremely challenging. Unolingo can be purchased for $4.99.

Going through the forums, I came across this application and saw how a member worked with the developer on bringing it to the BlackBerry platform. So I thought I would give it a spin being that I have several videos on my device going back years. This Android port gives users the features, including playback for various formats, which comes with the standard player as well as extra capabilities not normally found. Once you point the application to the appropriate video folders on your device or SD card it wills can your library and add all compatible files to the list (i.e. Files that are DRM protected will not load). GoodPlayer also sports a built-in UPnP client, folder playback support, support for Blu-Ray pgs and mkv embedded subtitles, DVD .iso playback, a WebDAV client, streaming playback, and HTTP and HTTPS support. Amazon offers up another fantastic game as their free app of the day - this time it's Bag It

Bag-It-Passport-Hero

Although I hit up the Amazon Appstore on my BlackBerry 10 devices each day I don't always download the 'free app of the day' unless it's one I really think both you readers and myself would enjoy using. That happened today when I discovered Bag It. As usual with me, my first thoughts of a puzzle game were that I won't like it too much, but I was very wrong - Bag It rocks.

While the thought of filling a grocery bag with various items may not sound too appealing you need to give it a chance. Once you load this one up you'll instantly be pleased with the wonderful bright, clean graphics and as you would expect you get given a brief tutorial.

The items available will appear above the bag and it's just a case of dragging them into the bag. Of course, there's more to it than that as you won't want to break fragile items and you can also rotate items as you need to fill the bag up as much as possible to achieve the best score.

I'm pretty sure my description doesn't do it justice so you'll have to trust me on this one. Give it a go and let us know what you think? I will warn you though that I think this one has the potential to be addictive.

Features of Bag It include:

  • 100+ unique levels! Try to get 3 stars and both medals for each - master them all!

  • Standard, Rampage, and Puzzle modes!

  • Seedy's Booty - an all new matching challenge mode! Collect coins, buy power-ups, and see if you can best your Facebook friends!

  • 3 endless modes - Ultimate Bagger, Endless Rampage, and Power Surge!

  • Over 30 achievements to earn!

ADDITIONAL FEATURES:

  •
Your grocery characters come to life - it's like "Tetris meets Toy Story"!

  • Unique grocery combos - try to find them all!

Snake 3D - an old classic gets a sweet revamp and is free on BlackBerry 10

If you're as old as me you'll remember when the game Snake was super popular the first time around. And that lasted for a good few years as the game came pre-loaded on all Nokia phones I think. Snake 3D runs along the same concept apart from things have developed in the graphics department a bit over the last 20 years or so.

Free to download from BlackBerry World and available for all BlackBerry 10 devices, Snake 3D is certainly a great way to not only kill some time, but also to do a bit of reminiscing if you used to play the game in the good old days.

Along the lines of the original game, but now in 3D, you control the snake who must move around the board and eat the frog (green cube). As you progress your snake becomes longer meaning that the game gets slowly harder and in addition to not being able to hit the edges of the board, you must also not hit the snakes own body or it's game over. The whole purpose here is to just get the highest score possible and you'll be pleased to know that with this one you can hit the ground running as it doesn't take much practice.

Controlling the snake is achieved with screen gesturers to the left or right, but as you'll see in our brief hands-on video all is explained before you start.

The only downside to the game is that it has no sound or music. Fingers crossed this will be added a future update as I can see this one sitting on a lot peoples BlackBerry's and getting used on the commute to work etc.

Give it a go and let us know what you think?

Angry Birds Seasons for BlackBerry 10 gets an update, but not a festive one as you might have thought

Angry-Birds-Seasons-Hero

With Christmas just around the corner, when I saw that Angry Birds Seasons for BlackBerry 10 had been updated I presumed that it would involve some festive treats. I was wrong, once again. The good news is that because the new levels introduced in version 4.2.1 are not Christmasy it will ensure that you don't get the post Christmas blues when playing the game in the New Year.

So in this update we get the following:

  • New High Altitude Levels - 24 free levels full of ancient statues, shaky rope bridges and swinging relics.

Not the biggest update in the world, but if you're an Angry Birds fan you'll be diving into this one straight away. For you folk that have recently picked up the BlackBerry Passport I'm afraid this games not yet supported on the device. Fingers crossed that developers Rovio will look into that one for us.

Growing up I used to make Origami items. That popular paper-folding pastime allowed us to create so many ingenious and beautiful creations. It brings that experience to life with an amazing 3D folding effect. There are more than 70 puzzles with limits on the number of folds you can make to achieve the desired shape. One Music Player by Unicorn Inc.

No matter what the occasion, be it relaxing or writing a blog post, there has to be music playing in the background. As such, I probably devote an exorbitant amount of time testing various music players on my device. This latest player to hit the storefront captured my attention first by the minimalist glassy design and second by the unique way it allows you to navigate the application. This has to be explained as there is no back button. It utilizes a special swipe to have you return to the previous screens, and that is by swiping up from the bottom frame and going left or right across the display. As a native application, it's fast, responsive, and plays your music flawlessly. It sorts your library by song, album, artist, playlist and folders, as well as letting you select additional options for filtering such as by duration and date added. There are other great features as well including a built-in 5-band equalizer and a tag editor. This beautiful and feature packed player is FREE to download.

In certain areas of the world, December is not just about the holidays but about the change in weather with its plummeting temperatures and snow. On occasions such as this, having a fun and easy game to pass the time is always welcome. One such game that came across my inbox is SnowLogic, an interesting game that is a cross between Plants and Zombies and Pudding Monsters.

In this action puzzle game, your goal is to protect your igloos from a mob of freezing penguins that wish to invade them. Your arsenal is comprised of only snowball throwing snowmen and a big of logic. You have to chase them away before they reach them by manipulating the snowmen on the board all while avoiding the deadly obstacles and making sure you stay on the board. Did I not mention that the snowmen have a habit of sliding away on the ice?

To ensure your snowman does not veer in directions unknown you have to be mindful of the objects on the board to keep him in place that includes ice blocks and fiery teleports. In this regard, you can move one snowman around the board to stave off a barrage of penguins (at least in the beginning levels) as well as move several snowmen and ice blocks on the table to accomplish your goal. Players have their choice of regular gameplay or a mini game where the penguins come in endless waves.

Features

  • Unique game play
  • 100+ levels
  • An extra mini game
  • English and German language
  • No advertisement
  • No IAP

SnowLogic is available for all BlackBerry 10 devices for $0.99. However, the developer has agreed to offer a special promotion whereby our readers can download one of the 1,000 copies for free! The code and instructions to follow are below. We all know how they vanish in a flash.

  • Launch BlackBerry World
  • Swipe down from the top and tap Redeem
  • Enter promo code: SNOWBERRY14
  • Tap on the green FREE button to download

If you're looking for some quick fun then, this family friendly game will certainly keep you occupied. It offers cute graphics, smooth gameplay, and keeps you on your toes when trying to formulate a penguin assault strategy.

QuickReply by manysmallapps.com

From time to time, there are going to be moments where you need to save time and effort by replying quickly to a variety of emails that involve similar questions and requests. During those times, it is often necessary to use pre-filled responses and templates. QuickReply is a way for BlackBerry users to create and compose templates right from the BlackBerry Hub. Not only does it allow for text responses but you may add one or more files to include as attachments. Once a template is selected you have two options to compose your message. The first method is to tap and hold on a template and select the compose option from the menu. This will bring up a new BlackBerry compose email screen. The second option is to go into the hub and share the original message to QuickReply and tap on a specific template. The compose email screen appears as a reply to the original message where you can make further edits prior to clicking send. Fast and easy it is a handy application for consumers and business users alike. QuickReply is $0.99 for BlackBerry 10.

Notes on Pictures by LaurentCie

Awhile back I took a look at Notes on Pictures for legacy devices. It was a fun application to insert witty and noteworthy captions to your personal pictures before sharing them on your social networks. The developer recently announced its availability on BlackBerry 10 with a slick, new, easy to use interface. Being able to add a caption to your pictures, whether it be creative observations, funny remarks or memes, or just put the image into context, the application lets you add text with easy. All you have to do is select an image or take a shot with the camera, add the text and save, and the rest is up to you. Current users can download this version for free, otherwise it is $0.99.

In addition, it lets you choose a publishing option (Post Now, Save as Draft, Add to Queue, Post Privately) and to select between a bright and dark theme. Zengrams by Gameblyr, LLC

This week I found this unique puzzle game in the Amazon Appstore. I have to say it is quite challenging. The object of the game is to fill in the box(es) with the pieces given in a limited number of moves. At the bottom of the screen you will see three diamond shapes. These are used to track how many moves remaining to maneuver the pieces on the board. If you tap one of these diamonds you can undo your last move without restarting the level. Basically what you are doing is moving the pieces to fill in a set shape on the board. What is also interesting is that the pieces may come in different colors and sometimes the puzzle involves them overlapping (to form another color) or combining to form one piece that has to be moved as well. There are 70 puzzles included in this game and it involves a bit of thought to solve the various logic puzzles presented. Normally priced at $2.99, Zengrams is on sale for the holidays for $0.99.

If there one thing I can say, it is that I never get tired of swapping wallpapers on my device. No matter what the occasion there is nothing like livening up the screen by rotating amongst my favorite images. Wallpaper++ comes with over 1,000 images in ten different categories for you to choose from. What sets this apart from similar applications is that they are sized correctly for all BlackBerry 10 devices. All of the images are high quality and it's as easy as tapping on your selection to set the image as your background. This application is $2.99 to purchase for BlackBerry 10.

Earlier this year, Foursquare spun off it's application into two parts, Foursquare and Swarm, with the latter taking over the role for all your check-ins. Versions popped up on the iOS, Android, and Windows Phone platforms but not on BlackBerry as we still had the original application to use. One talented developer decided took up the mantle and created his own third party client called Swirl. It allows you to check into venues around you, see where your friends are and their recent check-ins, view user and venue profiles, and contact your friends via all the registered channels. For a limited time you can find it for BlackBerry 10 for only $0.99.

Help teddy escape from the house in GetOuT! EDDY - a fun physics game with 1000 free copies up for grabs

$

The developers behind SnowLogic are at it again bringing us another entertaining game geared for players of all ages called GetOuT!Eddy. Now that the holidays are here and we all have some extra time on our hands nothing wrong with curling up with a simply physics game for a quick escape. The object of the game is for you to navigate the stuffed Teddy Bear, called Eddy, out of the house, as he is trapped there while his Family is on vacation.

While on the surface you may think this is an easy task it actually isn't. As this is a physics game, the Teddy Bear is constantly in motion, meaning that he is always moving and there are no controls to speak of. The only control you have over your character is through jumping. However, each level only grants a limited set of jumps. The goal is to move about the house by going through the doors or holes in the floor, jumping over furniture or objects in your path, locating the key, and then getting to the front door as quickly as possible. There are 72 pre-designed levels to start with spread throughout the two themes, Full House and Hunted House, with more coming soon. There is also a level generator in each group that present even more possible combinations to play.

GetOuT! Eddy is available for all BlackBerry 10 devices for $0.99. Once again, the developer is offering a special promotion whereby our readers can download this game for free. There are 1,000 copies available and the code is shown below.

  • Launch BlackBerry World
  • Swipe down from the top and tap Redeem
  • Enter promo code: EDDYBERRY14
  • Tap on the green FREE button to download

This is a very interesting game once you get the hang of it. It is important to note that before you begin a level you have the option of panning across the board to see the house and plan your escape in advance. I admit there was a bit of a learning curve and to acclimate to how this physics based logic game is played. Overall, it is quite enjoyable to play especially for the little ones. There are no ads and no In App Purchases for you to be distracted by, just a nice simple game that is available on the other platforms as well.

iTavli by i-smartSolutions

Growing up I have to say my family loved to play board games. One of them just happened to be backgammon. For those of you unfamiliar, it is a game in which two players move their pieces around a board comprised of twenty-four triangular points by throwing a set of dice. The winner is the person who is first to remove all their pieces from the board. While this is an Android Port, it does feature three different types of backgammon games for you to choose from: Portes (backgammon), Plakoto (blockgammon), and Fevga (narde). In addition, you can select playing a computer opponent or with your friends even if they are on other platforms. There are instructions on how to play each game, integration with Facebook, there are virtual coins to bet and to play without ads, option to view statistics, and ability to control the speed of the chip motion and dice animation. The graphics are rather simple but if you enjoy the game it gets the job done. iTavli is $0.99 for all BlackBerry 10 handsets with the exception of the Q10.

Viira for BlackBerry 10 by Karta Mobile Inc.

This next application was a suggestion from a reader. It is a powerful and professional GTD application for BlackBerry devices. Its main purpose is to keep you organized, and I must say it is a robust application with all of the bells and whistles to help you accomplish this. There is a plethora of features included only a few of which can fit into the space here. With Viira you can organize your tasks and emails into projects, tag tasks, create email tasks directly from the hub, associate tasks with reminders, reorder tasks and project by priority, view appointments, backup/restore, and it even sync with Outlook (version 2003-2013 is supported). The only downside is the hefty price tag. Normally $19.99, it is currently on sale for the holidays for $14.99, though there is a free trial version available. To some that is a bit steep but if you follow the GTD method of organizing your day-to-day life, then it certainly is an excellent resource to have for all BlackBerry 10 devices. There is also a version available for legacy devices.

It is a cute and charming hangman like game that you can download for free in the Amazon Appstore.

This application allows users to store and manage their .PKPASS files. What this means is that you can access your boarding passes, coupons, loyalty cards, movie tickets, and other passes on your BlackBerry device. As long as they are in the .PKPASS format you can use your device to collect and use loyalty points in stores such as Starbucks that you created on another device or for ones you created at www.passsource.com. The application is easy to use and offers headless support, customized LED notifications, register for geofenced reminders of when a .pkpass is valid (if you pass a store), and the option to send an alert to your Pebble device. While this version does not support dynamic updates (i.e. Points balance updates, airport gate updates), it is handy to use while on the go. Passport Companion is $2.99 for BlackBerry 10.

LaterSend by Baran

Going through our forums, I came across this handy productivity tool. This native application allows users to schedule your SMS, IMAP email (including attachments), and PIN to PIN messages. Speaking from experience, there are times, be it personal or business, where sending a message at a later date and time is necessary. The application itself is easy to use, setup, and attach files. It also includes, in settings, the option to confirm message deletion and "send now." The only downside of using LaterSend is that it is headless which means you need to leave it running as an active frame until the message is sent. However, the developer is considering adding this functionality in future updates. You can find this application for $1.99 for all BlackBerry 10 devices.

DualSMS by KQSoft Inc.

For those of you looking to get more get more out of your screen real estate when it comes to text messages there is this application. It provides you with two basic SMS windows side by side on the same screen. It allows you to adjust the size of each window using the slider bars, adjust the colors, backup SMS messages automatically (in its database), view, search, or delete chat history, export history as a CSV file, and backup/restore to the cloud, device or SD card. Though it was designed for the wide screen of the BlackBerry Passport, it is compatible with all other handsets. What is great about this application is how you can carry on two conversations at once. Whatever message is sent in the application is also copied to the BlackBerry application so you do not have to worry about switching back and forth between the two. However, any messages cleared in DualSMS does not clear them from the BlackBerry one. You can purchase this application for $1.99.
